Publication of the fifth HESTIA project newsletter
The HESTIA project is in its final year and many new and exciting results and data are currently being produced by the consortium.
A great variety of innovative injection systems have been developed and tested, exploring features like swirling flows, multi-point arrangements and jet-in cross flow configurations. Combustion test rigs have been designed and built with, in some instances, the capacity to run at higher than atmospheric pressures, required for targeted TRL3-level.
Adapted diagnostics and measurement techniques provide a rich understanding of H2 reactive flows; a novel instantaneous thermometry method has also been developed as part of the HESTIA experiments.
These experiments provide valuable data to validate numerical models being improved and implemented in simulations; we are now also seeing results at high power and pressure. Simulations of various types (LBM, LES, CHT) address all aspects of combustion, including pollutants, flame dynamics and complete combustion system sectors with thermal coupling.
HESTIA results have provided great scientific contributions as shown by the quality of the publications. This is combined with a generation of knowledge that feeds into combustion system design and best engineering practices.
These efforts will lead to overall maturity at TRL3 level at the end of the project, along with recommendations and a road map beyond TRL3.
We are looking forward to sharing all of these with the community!
